Well, here I am

So I decided to do the blog thing. You see, this all came about because I have trouble sleeping, so I figured I should get some of the noise out of my head.
Okay-lets start with the apartment part of my blog. It started about a year and a half ago- I got fired. It sucked but it was a time to make decisions. My husband, Ryan, has wanted to get into the field of photography so where better to do that from than New York city. So the plan started to form, we will look for an apartment in NYC. It just happened to be at a time when rents in the Upper East side were at a low. Why the rents had dropped was anybody's guess but it's is my opinion that the dreaded, evil realtors make the decisions of how much, how little and who are we going to screw this week. I got a job that I thought could just hold us over until we moved. I work in a restaurant so I can pretty much get a job anywhere. Well here I am, almost a year and a half later hoping that we will find that apartment and move. Here's how it started to go down- I started looking on Craigslist for apartments. Craigslist used to be one of the best places to find an apartment, now it's a playground for scammers. We did get to see a few apartments but they were just ridiculous. Believe me I figured we would see small apartments, really I did, but I just don't know why people settle with a tiny place with no closets just to say they live in a certain place. This trend really has to stop. These landlords shouldn't be able to rent out something at a crazy price that completely comprises the standard of living that I should be able to have. We are good tenants and we pay our rent on time. To me that should be it. Which brings me to another point- I shouldn't have to give away every bit of my personal information just to get that place with no closets. I haven't even mentioned the mice and most likely the bedbugs that we will get. So the few places we saw were just not going to cut it.
Back to the craigslist drama. You get a few legitimate ads and then it's either a scam or some service advertising that they have the perfect apartment for you- that doesn't really exist. I can't tell you how many ads I wrote to and then got a response about how they are the owners of said apartment and they are moving to West Africa to do God's work. Just send them the money and they will send the papers and key. Are you kidding me? You know people fall for this and that's sad but for me it was frustrating and a terrible waste of my time. So now a year later the rents have gone up a bit and the only way I think we would be able to find anything is to go to a realtor and that's not even a given. The realtors are a scam of their own. No fee is a lie. They get their money in the end and it's still from you, they just word it so you think you are getting a free month of rent. The evil little ones can't be bothered with us renters, yet it seems to be the only way to get a legit apartment. We did meet one nice guy who tried to help us for a little while but I literally laugh at him when he showed us a 250 sq ft. 'apartment' for $1400. It wouldn't fit more more than our bed and tv, sorry but I have things that I'm not going to put in storage just so I can live and experience life in the Big Apple.
Well this is just the beginning of our saga and in the future I will be sharing more of our adventures in apartment hunting.
Then maybe I'll get to the fame part of my blog.
